about fanlistings

Fanlistings are simply, as the title implies, sites that list fans of a particular subject: movies, actors, actresses, bands, etc.

In this case, fans of the incredibly talented singer, Anastacia. In order to join [be listed as a fan], all I need is your first name, email address and country. Simple as that. Please be aware that this is not a fan club, a mailing list, or anything "official," it's just... a list.

I actually ran the very first website for Anastacia in 2000 (which no longer exists - long story), and I've been wanting to get my hands on the fanlisting for quite a while. I'm so excited to finally have the chance, and will try my best to do a good job!

about Anastacia

Anastacia Lyn Newkirk grew up in Chicago, Illinois, and New York City; a fact that may surprise a lot of people, given her international fame. In fact, many articles about her have stated she's from Australia.

Her parents were both in the performing arts, her mother, an actress, performed on Broadway, her father was a singer on the East Coast. At a young age, Anastacia developed a love and respect for performing. She was especially drawn to her mother's Elton John and Barbra Streisand records.

As she grew older, Anastacia began dancing in local clubs with her sister, Shawn, and developed a love for dance music. In the late 1980s/early '90s, she was a regular on Club MTV, MTV's version of American Bandstand. She even appeared in two Salt N' Pepa videos: "Everybody Get Up" and "Twist and Shout"

It was while dancing at one of her favorite clubs, New York's 1018, that a producer noticed the beautiful, energetic Anastacia, and asked if she could also sing... it was then that the ball began rolling toward Anastacia entertaining for a living.

Anastacia was a contestant on MTV's 1990s talent search show, "The Cut." She made it to the finals (Top 10), but didn't win. The somewhat ironic twist is, she and fellow non-winner (Christian rapper) T-Bone are the most successful contestants from the show. She also appeared on Magic Johnson's short-lived talk show "The Magic Hour" during one of his audience talent showcases.

She later signed with Epic/Daylight, and released her debut album, Not That Kind (1999), which contained the hits: "I'm Outta Love," "Cowboys & Kisses," and the title track. The U.S. release occurred after most foreign countries', and the track listing varied. The same thing happened with her follow-up album, Freak of Nature (oddly enough, many versions included some songs from Not That Kind).

The name Anastacia is Greek for "she who will rise again," which has definitely been fitting for this powerful woman! She has been battling Chron's Disease (an intestinal disorder) from a young age; and while looking into a breast reduction surgery in early 2003, it was discovered she had breast cancer. After surgery in February of that year to remove the tumor, and reshape her breasts, Anastacia was pronounced cancer-free! Her next album, simply titled Anastacia, contained the very emotional song "Heavy On My Heart," which chronicled her battle.

The album was followed by the hits package, "Pieces of a Dream," which also included some new tracks and remixes.

Most recently, Anastacia released "Heavy Rotation," which will no doubt secure her position as a force of nature in the industry.
